Abstract

In `The Neuropsychosis of Defense¢¥ (1894) Freud said that the strong affect of the repressed sexual idea is displaced onto the obsessional idea. He thought that sexual experience before puberty accompanied by pleasure is later trans-formed into self-reproach and obsessional neurosis is the consequence. Now-days much analytic interest concerated on the first year of life as the beginning of pathology of obsessional neurosis, especially on the events within the early mother-infant relationship. There are some critical comments regarding Rat Man case. These criticisms of Freud¢¥s technique show that modern technique broadens the concept beyond the limits of Freud¢¥s definition. Anyway the therapeutic result of Rat Man was successful. It means that analyst¢¥s comprehension and appropriate interpretation of his response is important than any other behavior and minor matters.
